Andrea Selwood

 Flow Chart

Andrea will discuss how as a visual artist she responds to ‘raising the creek’ initiative in Houghton Bay, Wellington.

Multi coloured lines that look like rivers on a map.The time-based elements in the two videos record Flow Chart as a work-in-progress. These short clips also allude to the evolution of the valley and its story of human intervention and resulting land use. The works final 3D construction and installation is a comment on the overall purifying process of water.

Themes of historical planning, the importance of people and place including environmental action are activated by this individual work and also those of the wider group presentation, ‘’ Raising the Creek’.

The aim of the group collective was to unite the community and raise awareness of the natural stream ecology partially buried within the valley.

Questions of how to align this thinking within an increasingly suburban environment continues to inform an ongoing community initiative to work alongside the Wellington City Council to address the future urban planning of the valley.
